Help
Tidel is in beta and moving fast. If something is broken, we would rather hear it than not — write to post@tidel.no and a person answers.
Devices
What do I need?
A phone with GPS. That is the whole list. iPhone on iOS 15 or later, or Android 7.0 or later. Everything else — a watch, an external receiver — is optional.
Does my watch work?
Apple Watch: yes, on iPhone. Record the ride as a workout, and Tidel reads the route and heart rate from Apple Health.
Garmin, Polar, Suunto, Coros and others: it depends on the watch, not on Tidel. Two routes work:
- The watch writes workouts to Apple Health — then Tidel imports them like any other workout, on iPhone.
- You export the ride as a GPX file and open it in Tidel. This works on both iPhone and Android.
Tidel is not affiliated with any of these companies, and there is no direct integration with their apps.
Is there a difference between iPhone and Android?
The analysis is identical. The difference is import: reading workouts straight from Apple Health is an iPhone feature, because Health is an Apple system. On Android you record with the phone or import a GPX file. Health Connect support is not built yet.
Recording and importing
Do I need signal at the track?
No. Recording, importing and analysis all happen on the phone. Most tracks have no coverage anyway. Your sessions sync to your account when you are back on a network.
How do I import a ride I already recorded?
Go to More → Import. From there you can:
- pull workouts straight from Apple Health (iPhone),
- open a GPX file from any app or watch,
- drop in an Apple Health export zip if you want your whole history at once,
- download sessions from a paired RaceBox.
Tidel finds the track, sets the finish line and splits the laps on its own.
It imported my bike ride to the shops as a session
Tidel filters out rides that do not look like laps, but it is not perfect. Delete the session from the session list — that removes its GPS file too.
Lap times and GPS
Why did I get fewer laps than I rode?
A lap only counts if the GPS actually shows you crossing the finish line, in the right direction, with no gap in the recording. The usual causes are:
- the finish line sits somewhere you do not really pass, or passes it at an angle,
- the GPS dropped out for a few seconds,
- you stopped for long enough that the lap is not a lap any more.
Open Track setup from the map and move the finish line to a spot you cross cleanly every lap, ideally on a straight. Tidel re-counts immediately, and tells you why each discarded pass was discarded.
How accurate are the times?
Accurate enough to compare your own laps with each other, which is the point. A phone gives roughly one position per second; a RaceBox gives twenty-five. Neither is transponder timing, and neither should be used to settle a result or claim a record.
What is the “best sectors combined” time?
Your fastest time in each sector, added together. It is a calculation, not a lap you rode — it shows what the day was worth if you put your best parts on the same lap. Tidel drops any sector where the GPS had a gap or you stopped, and marks the number when it had to.
RaceBox
Which boxes work?
RaceBox Mini, Mini S and Micro, over Bluetooth. Tidel reads 25 Hz position plus altitude, satellite count, heading and three-axis G-force. Tidel has no partnership with RaceBox — it is simply a receiver the app can talk to.
It will not connect
Only one app can talk to a RaceBox at a time. Close the RaceBox app completely, including from the app switcher, and disconnect any other phone that has been paired to it. The box keeps recording on its own even when nothing is connected, so you will not lose the session.
Then open More → My devices and connect again.
Your account
I never made an account. Do I have one?
Yes — an anonymous one, created automatically so your sessions survive a new phone. There is no email, no password and no profile to fill in. You can see its 8-character code under More → My share code.
How do I move to a new phone?
Export a backup from More → Backup on the old phone and open it on the new one. That carries everything across, including sessions, tracks, settings and trophies.
How do I delete everything?
In the app: More → Your account → Delete my account. Without the app installed, see tidel.no/delete-account. There is a 7-day grace period, then it is permanently gone.
Is there a web version?
A web version is being built for deeper analysis on a big screen. It is in private testing and not open yet.
Price and privacy
What does it cost?
Nothing while in beta. There are no ads and no in-app purchases. If paid features arrive later, we will say so in advance and your existing rides stay accessible.
Who can see my rides?
Only you, unless you deliberately share a session or a record. Sessions are private by default and there is no public leaderboard. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.
Still stuck?
Write to post@tidel.no. Tell us the phone you use, what you did, and what happened instead. If it is about one particular session, the date and track are enough to find it.
